Weathernet provides a variety of decision support services for many public and private clients. Our team differs from others, because we go beyond a simple weather forecast. We focus on the impacts that affect our individual clients. Our meteorologists are taught to understand the nature of client processes and services, and to provide clients with the information needed for them to make smart, efficient decisions.
Clients trust Weathernet because of a strong emphasis on communication. Our staff includes meteorologists dedicated to monitoring the weather in specific regions 24/7, 365 days a year. Clients are encouraged to call our toll-free number to speak to their dedicated meteorologist and pose any questions or concerns about how the weather might impact them. Our meteorologists will work with the client over the phone to make sure they have all of the needed information to feel comfortable making a decision.
Our meteorologists are trained to handle conference calls for agencies ahead of major storm events on short notice. By doing so, clients can be confident the upcoming weather and its impacts are well understood by the group, and can ask questions about the Weathernet forecast to better understand what impacts can be expected. Conference calls allow for agencies to better prepare ahead of storm events, and better adapt during them.
Even when clients are not watching the weather, we are monitoring it for them. Weathernet meteorologists are prepared to send alerts immediately via SMS text, e-mail, or other preferred methods when the weather makes an unforeseen change. This provides our clients with confidence that they are being looked after, and will be notified when impactful weather is forecast to disrupt their operations.
Many local agencies rely on access to our team outside of typical business hours. The City of Seattle relies on a meteorologist being available after dark to better prepare them to handle frost, ice, and snow concerns through the overnight hours. This way, they receive the most accurate, up to the minute information regarding road temperature forecasts, and can make changes to their response if needed. During storm events, additional staff will provide phone support so clients can receive needed updates and make their decisions efficiently without waiting.
In 2019, western Washington was battered by four major snow events in the course of just over a week. Through the duration of this string of storms, Weathernet provided scheduled and unscheduled conference calls with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) in an effort to assist in staffing, equipment use, treatment methods, and road closure decisions. WSDOT conference calls included state officials from maintenance and operations, emergency departments, public information officers, and Washington State Patrol. In addition; officials from cities, counties, and transportation agencies throughout the region were invited to attend. Our communication with these groups allowed for a more effective response to the significant snowfall that hampered much of the Puget Sound region.
In the Pacific Northwest, the weather changes quickly and the Boeing Company relies on Weathernet to look out for their best interests. Boeing assembles and tests commercial airliners in four different locations across Washington. Weathernet meteorologists monitor conditions and provide timely alerts for crucial wind criteria and lightning, as well as updates during prolonged storm events so that Boeing can take the proper steps to safely secure their employees and aircraft in production.
